Decline in standards of behaviour.

Post by Lifelong Experiences » Tue Mar 24, 2020 5:37 am

I'm sure you must all have noticed the decline in standards of behaviour.
Police in Yorkshire were spat and coughed at, then had eggs thrown at them by motorcyclists as they attended a serious incident (as yet unspecified) today.
My wife is working in a SPAR filling station and supermarket at Troutbeck Bridge near Windermere.
As such she is apparently a designated key worker in the current crisis, and although part time, staff shortages mean she is currently on 7 days a week... AND over the weekend worked 21 hours!
For several days all the staff have been subject to abuse from customers... either because shelves were empty, or because they were stopping customers buying more than they needed... like the last 15 tins of corned beef!!
She has got thoroughly fed up!!
I will share what she posted on Facebook... unusually for her:

This was after a male customer leaned over the counter and snarled that she should be wearing a mask to protect HIM, and that there should be a line on the floor telling him where to stand ... instead of right up to the counter which is where he stood while ranting.
Her manager was close by and stepped up to admonish the customer... but she is looking to hit somebody next time. She was reluctant to go to work today, and jeopardise HER health.
Would she be committing an offence if she sprayed sanitiser spray in their faces?

Not if it “happened by accident”.

It truly is crazy times. Traffic police redeployed to response duties to deal with irate customers with shops. Absolutely unreal.

Definitely spray them in the face, "sorry, it was a nervous reflex after getting shouted at!" 👍

I was thinking more along the lines of self defence!!
SPAR are no help.
There has been no PPE provided. I went in yesterday and provided face masks and gloves!!
They have finally agreed a line of parcel tape should be placed 1 mtr in front of the counter yesterday.
But they have yet to rule "all payments by card only" so (dirty) cash is being taken but not banked or collected!!!!!!
I'm about to find their contact details and fire off both barrels!!

You can use “reasonable force” as self defence.
