Car paint

Post by Lost soul » Tue Mar 10, 2020 9:35 pm

month or two ago after the local fair my car got a dent in front wing, i assumed it was some drunken dickhead as there was no crease and no paint had chipped off, i'm going to remove dent myself when weather is warmer, the dent pulling kit now lives beside my lock picking set;

I am Buckfast the Ned Burglar!

Anyway i was looking at other cars with dents and one thing i noticed was no paint chips, or cracks, even in creases, dents dings etc, so i'm wondering if i was actually dinged by a car .

Does modern paint actually flex?

Yes.
And a lot of modern cars have water based paint.
Bodies that used to be dipped are now electrostatically sprayed.

Have a look on YouTube... there are some documentary type videos there.

By the way... some dents without creases respond to having boiling water from a kettle poured on as you pull it... and that can work better in cold weather.

Modern paint is water based.

What I have noticed it that it’s softer than the paint of 15-20 years ago as it doesn’t seem to take much for stone chips to appear.

If pulling the dent out doesn’t work, find a good local dent guy. They don’t cost much to push a dent out with the set of rods that they use.
